Clean Up Your Vista Backups and Restore Points.

I showed you yesterday how what you needed to do when you want to make a backup of your Vista files. But that’s not the only option that Vista has for making backups. Vista has many new features for making backups. Vista saves the previous versions of your documents and the system state points which are part of system restore. These features are great and I’m glad we have them but they can steal a lot of HD space.

 

Today’s Vista Tip and Tick is about how to remove these system backups but I wouldn’t do this too often. These backups are not done for fun; I suggest that you only do this when your system is running stable and clean. If you have some system problems, don’t touch this Tip & Trick.

Stop Applications from Automatically Starting in Windows Vista.

Applications automatically starting when you start up your system is necessary for a good Vista usability. I’m showing you in this Vista Tip and Trick how you can disable some of the programs that you never use but are set on autostart. You’ll be amazed how many programs are listed.

 

For disabling autostart on your applications at start-up you’ll need to take the following steps.

Hide All The Icons from Your System Tray Permanently.

If you want to clean up your system tray there are several ways to do this. The simple and easy way to do this is to right click on the system tray and disable or hide them temporary.  Ill explain all these options in the next few weeks, stay tuned;).

 

If you would like to disable them permanently and don’t show any system tray icons at all you’ll need to change some things in the Windows Registry.

Disable, Remove or change the Shortcut Icon Arrow in Windows Vista

Yesterday I showed you how to remove the shortcut arrow from your Windows XP desktop icons. The desktop icons arrows are even bigger in Windows Vista than the ones in Windows XP. This next Vista Tip and Trick is about removing the arrows from your desktop icons or changing them into other icon arrows.

 

This next Vista Tip or Trick doesn’t involve making manual changes to the registry, We are downloading a free and small program for this which is called Vista Shortcut Manager.

If you have a great looking wallpaper and a nice theme to work with than you probably don’t want to see the arrows on your desktop shortcuts. They are just not the most pretty looking things to look at on your desktop.

What is your Cleaning Schedule? Part 3

You can divide a Windows Cleaning Schedule in three parts/schedules that are all measured by how you use your system. Maybe you can say four since you also have your daily tasks.

The basic schedule is needed for tasks like emptying your recycle bin, cleaning up your web cache, deleting cookies, creating backups and deleting temporary files.
